Smelting
Fusite is one of a select few glass-to-metal sealers able to formulate custom glasses through smelting, which takes raw materials to a high temperature to form glass. Our expertise in this area allows us to exceed the stringent material demands that our customers' applications require for quality sealing, adhesion, and corrosion resistance. We offer a full range of glasses covering thermal expansions for most compression and matched seal applications. From converting the frit to free flowing granules for dry pressing, Fusite has proven processing and spray drying equipment.

Oven Capabilities
Fusite's ovens use digital controllers that provide a constant temperature during the manufacturing process to ensure a more specific or defined end product. With these controlled atmosphere ovens of pure air conditions (with fusing capabilities in excess of 2000°F), we are able to fuse stainless steel parts without oxidizing the surface as various blends of gases (such as hydrogen, nitrogen, or argon) are introduced into the furnace to achieve the desired reducing atmosphere. This type of fusing is typically used to improve chemical bonding and specific glass wetting requirements.

Pin and Wire Materials
Fusite produces bimetallic wires of various materials and sizes primarily for applications where high electrical conductivity is required. Design engineers often use Fusite's copper core wire because of our proven hermetic metallurgical bond and its compatibility with many sealing glasses. The copper core permits a smaller diameter conductor than solid wire and it maintains excellent mechanical strength and ductility. Standard pin and tube materials include:

  • Stainless steel (300 or 400 Series)

Body and Housing Materials
Fusite's oven and custom glass formulation capabilities allow for fusing or brazing of several different metals and alloys for a variety of applications. Standard body and housing materials include:

  • Stainless steel (300 or 400 Series)
  • Cold-rolled steel (1010 or 1008)
  • Kovar

Metal Plating and Evaluation
Fusite has both gold and nickel plating operations in-house, including electroless and electrolytic nickel plating, as well as hard and soft gold plating. Our production lines can accommodate a wide range of different metal compositions, from cold-rolled steel and aluminum to stainless steel.

In addition to our own extensive in-house capabilities, a variety of other types of plating, including zinc dichromate, zinc nickel, and tin are available through certified outside suppliers. We also have proven analytical testing equipment, ranging from X-Ray analysis for plating thickness to salt-spray corrosion resistance evaluation.
